Inclement weather impacting services, Jan. 17-18: waste collection, transit schedules and more

Update, January 18, 2:05 p.m.

Now that yesterday’s freezing rain has ended, normal City services have resumed.

Transit schedule back to normal pickup times

Transit will resume service this afternoon with its usual pickups at Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre through to Heritage Valley Transit Centre. Please visit our Schedules and Routes page for times and the Transit page for general updates.

Waste collection continues as planned

Normal waste collection resumed today. Residents who normally have waste pickup on Tuesdays can expect no change in service. Anyone who had their pickup delayed yesterday should have their waste collected by end of day today. If you have any questions, please email waste@beaumont.ab.ca or call 780-929-4306. Visit https://www.beaumont.ab.ca/150 for information on the waste collection schedule.

Conditions remain hazardous on toboggan hills

The recent inclement weather and freeze-thaw cycles have resulted in extremely slippery and icy conditions on Beaumont’s toboggan hills. Before participating in any recreational activities, assess the conditions of the hill, exercise good judgement, and take appropriate safety precautions to ensure you are always in control.

The City of Beaumont does not monitor toboggan hill conditions, and users are advised to proceed at their own risk and carefully read the posted signage.

Find more safety tips on the Parachute Canada website.

Update, January 17, 6:05 p.m.

Due to worsening conditions, transit services had to be cancelled again tonight after 5 p.m. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Transit service will also be cancelled tomorrow morning, January 18. We will provide further updates tomorrow about whether the afternoon pickups will also be cancelled.

Please stay safe on the roads and refer to the Alberta 511 service for condition updates.

Update, January 17, 3:20 p.m.

Transit will resume service this afternoon with its usual pickups at Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre through to Heritage Valley Transit Centre. Please visit our Schedules and Routes page for times and the Transit page for general updates.

We anticipate that road conditions may worsen again tomorrow morning. If that is the case, transit service may be suspended again for everyone's safety. Please check back for updates first thing tomorrow.

Update, January 17, 11:57 a.m.

City staff have replenished the free public gravel bin behind Le Centre Communautaire de Beaumont | Beaumont Community Centre (CCBCC), located at 5204 50 Avenue. Residents are welcome to use the gravel to address icy sidewalks and walkways, but please exercise extreme caution when travelling today if you choose to visit the bin!

January 17, 9:48 a.m.:

Due to rapidly-worsening road conditions, waste collection and transit service have been put on hold this morning. We urge all residents to avoid travelling if possible. Municipal sanding trucks have been deployed and are currently addressing main thoroughfares.

Transit schedule updates to come this afternoon

Bus service was suspended this morning after the 7 a.m. pickup time. We will provide additional updates early this afternoon about whether our afternoon schedule will proceed.

Waste collection expected to resume tomorrow

Today’s scheduled waste collection has been suspended. If road conditions improve later today, waste collection may resume. If waste collectors are unable to resume today, residents who are scheduled for Monday waste collection will have their pickups tomorrow instead.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but these steps are necessary to protect everyone’s safety.
