FamiliesIndigenous Posted on: September 22, 2026 On September 30, the City of Beaumont observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a solemn and significant day dedicated to honouring the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools and those who never returned home, as well as the survivors, their families and communities. Survivors have shared heartbreaking accounts of physical, sexual, psychological abuse and the intergenerational impacts continue to affect communities today. The orange shirt symbol represents the injustice done to Indigenous children – stripping them of their identity, culture and freedom. The mantra “Every Child Matters” reminds us that each child lost must be remembered. This day invites all of us to reflect deeply on the truths of our shared history and commit to meaningful action in the spirit of reconciliation. The City of Beaumont encourages all residents to engage in learning opportunities, reflection and dialogue that fosters understanding and connection. Resources and events National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation During Truth and Reconciliation Week 2026, runs from September 21-25. The Centre invites you again to join our daily Lunch and Learn webinars – an immersive experience to UN-learn the myths of colonial history in Canada. These 60-minute sessions will begin at 12 pm CDT each day with Friday’s session being 90-minutes. All sessions will have simultaneous English-French and ASL interpretation. Returning to Ourselves, Collective Healing Join Aboriginal Counselling Services of Alberta to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. City of St. Albert National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event Join the City of St. Albert for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Mission Park this September 30 to honour the survivors of and the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Enjoy guest speakers, knowledge keepers, performers, local artisans, exhibits and food vendors. Join others from the community for an Honour Walk from Mission Park to Kâkesimokamik/The Healing Garden.
