Street Sweeping

The City’s annual spring street sweeping program removes sanding material and other debris (built up on roads during winter) from Beaumont’s public roadways.

Street sweeping season begins...

Street sweeping is set to begin in the coming weeks, weather permitting. See the info below for estimated timelines.

Jump down to timelines

Street sweeping is an important activity the City does each spring to remove dust and debris from roadways and boulevards, making roads clean and safe for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians and preparing roads for pothole repairs and line painting. Cleaning also prevents debris from going down storm drains.

Street sweeping takes place during the day between 8 am and 6 pm. While crews work hard to minimize dust, sweeping may create dusty conditions with limited visibility. Always leave plenty of space in front, behind and beside equipment, and slow down and drive to conditions if you see dust.

Ways you can help

  • Watch for signs posted at main entrances into subdivisions scheduled for sweeping. Signs are posted at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Move parked vehicles from the street. While the City does not do parking bans for street sweeping, the road won’t get cleaned where vehicles are parked.
  • Sweepers will make up to three passes; if you see the sweeper go by, it may not be done yet. Avoid parking on the street until signs are removed from your neighbourhood.
  • Remove ramps or other obstructions, like basketball nets and waste collection carts, from the gutter in front of your driveway.
  • Rock chips and sand from driveways and sidewalks can be swept into the curb gutter for the sweepers to pick up.
  • Grass, leaves and garbage should be kept away from the road and curb. These items should be disposed of properly during the City’s brown bag yard waste collection.
  • Advertising signs on boulevards and medians should be removed on sweeping days.

Thank you for helping crews clean streets as quickly as possible.

Dirt and debris from private lots/commercial property

Dirt and debris from private parking lots or non-City/City-contracted equipment is accepted at the Leduc Landfill. Please call in advance to confirm.

Timeline and priority

Like snow removal, street sweeping is based on a priority service schedule. P1 includes our main roads, and P2 to P5 represent the four quadrants of our City. Please note that priority levels for each quadrant rotate clockwise each year, so if your neighbourhood is P3 this year, it will be P4 next year.

Street sweeping takes about six weeks to complete, depending on the weather.
