Municipal By-election Dates Announced
Beaumont, AB – Citizens of Beaumont will go to the polls on Monday, February 5, 2018 for the by-election to fill the vacant council position.
“The polls will be open at the Beaumont Community Centre for extended hours, from 8 am to 8 pm on by-election day,” says Chelaine Winter, Returning Officer for Beaumont. “In addition, there will be advance polls for citizens who wish to vote prior to by-election day, as well as special mail-in ballots for those who cannot attend on by-election day.”
Advance polls are scheduled to take place in Council Chambers at the Town Office, from 10 am to 4 pm on two dates:
- Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018
- Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018
Those who wish to vote by special mail-in ballot should contact the Town Office to request the special ballot, and then follow the instructions.
Nomination day will be held four weeks prior to the by-election on Monday, January 8, 2018 between the hours of 8:30 am and 12 pm. On that day, candidates or their representatives must attend at the Town Office to officially register to run in the election.
Any candidates who plan to raise money for their campaign must register with the Returning Officer prior to beginning their fundraising efforts. To register, or for more details, call 780-929-1352.
The Town requires election workers to work on by-election day and at the advance polls. There is also a requirement to attend a training session. Election workers are paid a flat rate of $225. Anyone wishing to work in these paid positions can fill out and submit the form located on the Town’s website at www.beaumont.ab.ca/176.
