Mayor statementMedia releases Posted on: November 4, 2026 Beaumont City Council Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak had the following statement in response to an independent advisory panel’s report this week on Alberta’s electoral boundaries: “I am pleased that the independent panel appointed to draw the boundaries for provincial elections opted to largely restore the Leduc-Beaumont constituency. Throughout the process of redrawing the electoral maps for Alberta, Beaumont has consistently advocated for an approach that kept the city whole, maintained our community’s integrity, and made sure we have adequate representation in the Legislature. While the Edmonton-Beaumont constituency proposed by the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission earlier this year was an improvement from its initial suggestion to split our city between two constituencies, the panel’s recommendation is better aligned with our regional identity and interests. Beaumont and our neighbours in the City of Leduc and Leduc County form an integrated and functional regional community. We share school jurisdictions and many of our services, our economies and transportation networks are closely linked, and we have strong social ties. I am reassured that the panel noted our wishes in their report to the Legislature and I want to thank the dozens of residents who provided feedback during this process. The panel’s report reflects that your voices were heard. With the panel’s report completed, the next step is for the Legislature to approve the boundaries. I am hopeful we will remain a part of the Leduc-Beaumont constituency so that our city continues to receive the provincial support and attention it deserves.” Media contact: Mike BerezowskyDirector, Communications & Information Technology Services 780-243-0458 mike.berezowsky@beaumont.ab.ca
