City updatesEnvironmental initiatives Posted on: November 2, 2026 Two City facilities are more energy efficient after receiving more than $19,000 in grant support from the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Community Energy Conservation Program. The funding paid for new heating equipment at City Hall and the Parks shop next to the Fire Hall. “City Hall and the Parks shop have relied on their original heating equipment since the facilities were built,” says Ryan Orlovsky, Manager, Utility and Facility Operations for the City of Beaumont. “Upgrading to modern, energy-efficient equipment will lower utility costs, allowing us to redirect these operational savings back into resident-centred services our community relies on.” At City Hall, the two original heating pumps were replaced with high-efficiency ones. The old pumps ran at one speed, either “on” or “off.” The new pumps can speed up or slow down, depending on how much heat the building needs. For the Parks shop, the furnace and unit heater were original to the building and past their lifespan, so both were replaced. The new high-efficiency furnace heats the office and lunch space, while the new unit heater warms the shop area. Together, these two projects are expected to prevent the release of about 163 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the lifespan of the equipment, reducing the City’s overall greenhouse gas emissions and lowering utility costs for these buildings over time. These projects were supported through the Community Energy Conservation Program, administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta and the Government of Alberta.
