[ARCHIVED] Beaumont Transit Commuter Service Starts Today

NewsRelease

Beaumont, AB – Beaumont’s commuter transit service to Century Park LRT station began service today and for September, the ride is free. The bus operates four trips in the morning and six trips in the afternoon.

“Beaumont’s commuter transit is a convenient and affordable transportation solution for many residents of Beaumont,” said Mayor Camille Bérubé. “In time, as ridership increases, we expect to increase the number of trips per day.”

Passengers can park for free at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre Park and Ride, then take one of the brand new coaches to Century Park in Edmonton where riders can seamlessly integrate into the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) to reach their final destination.

“In the spirit of regional cooperation, ETS is pleased to partner with Beaumont Transit to provide the commuter service,” said Eddie Robar, Branch Manager for ETS. “In addition to maintaining and operating Beaumont’s three buses, ETS also provide regional commuter service to Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove and Edmonton Garrison.

The fare is $5 one way from Beaumont to Century Park. Riders then need to purchase an ETS fare to continue their journey. Beaumont Transit will offer several fare options for regular users, seniors and students, including 10-packs and monthly passes.

“As a way to promote the new service, Beaumont Transit will be offering free rides in September,” Mayor Bérubé added. "I encourage residents to use the new transit service and to promote it among friends and family as a viable transportation option.”

Three New Flyer Excelsior coaches were built especially for Beaumont, and they feature wider seats with lumbar support and more legroom.

“The coaches really are a cut above in terms of quality,” said Mayor Bérubé. “They are comfortable and quiet, so using Beaumont Transit will be a pleasant experience that you can share with family, friends and other Beaumont residents.”
