Winter is typically viewed as a cold, dark season, where people stay inside away from the frosty weather. However, with some imagination, community spirit, and other intentional actions, winter can be a magical time of year, something worth celebrating in our community. That's why the City of Beaumont is creating a Winter City Strategy that aims to positively transform our relationship with winter. This strategy will outline a vision, objectives and ideas to make winter in the city a more fun, safe, and equitable experience for everyone.
City staff need community input to inform the vision and big ideas for the Winter City Strategy. This feedback will also support the development of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines, which will promote safer public places in our city year-round.
Residents are invited to follow a winter walking route that visits several key locations in Beaumont, with large signs installed along the way where participants can write their thoughts, ideas, and perspectives about winter in the city. These signs will be in place from November 13-17.
An online survey is also available on www.beaumont.ab.ca/wintercity and www.beaumont.ab.ca/cpted from November 13-21. Participants in both the winter walk and survey activities can enter a draw for some cool winter-themed prizes.
