Active Commuting updatesConstruction updatesRoad closures Updated: July 17, 2026 Construction began May 25, 2026, on a new water feedline along 50 Avenue between the Main Pumphouse and reservoir near 57 Street and the St. Vital pumphouse and reservoir east of 47 Street. This work is part of the City’s approved 2026 capital projects and reflects Beaumont’s continued investment in the infrastructure that residents and businesses rely on every day. While the current water system continues to meet the community’s drinking water needs, this project will help the City stay ahead of future growth by improving system capacity, reliability, and redundancy in the water distribution network. In addition, a sanitary sewer line replacement is happening at 47 Street and 50 Avenue to allow seamless coordination between the two projects. Construction is expected to continue until the end of October 2026, subject to weather, underground conditions, and other construction-related factors. The project may continue into 2027 if additional time is needed. Changes to traffic patterns or impacts will be shared in the City’s weekly construction updates and through weekly updates on social media. At-a-glance A new water feedline is being installed along 50 Avenue: Residents can expect ongoing construction activity, traffic pattern changes and rolling lane or road closures from May until the end of October 2026. A sanitary sewer line at 50 Avenue and 47 Street is being replaced: The water feedline project is being paired with a sanitary sewer line replacement to prevent future backups. Work begins the week of July 20 and is expected to last about one month. >> Read the public notice Traffic and parking impacts are expected along 50 Avenue: Residents can expect delays, reduced lanes or road closures in active work areas, and no parking adjacent to construction work on 50 Avenue. The City will try to provide as much advance notice as possible to residents; however, due to the complex nature of underground infrastructure projects and factors like weather, some closures may happen with short notice. Lane closures may remain in place even if crews aren’t visibly working on a specific area. Many areas of the road contain open holes from utility locates and underground work ahead of active construction work. In addition, sections of 50 Avenue are being used to store equipment and materials while crews work on other portions of the road. This is required to maintain two-way traffic in areas where crews are working, when possible. Resident and business impacts: Impacts to nearby residences and businesses will be minimal. The contractor will reach out to directly to any homes or businesses if direct impacts are expected. Crew and resident safety: The safety of crews and residents is one of the City’s top priorities. While barriers and detours can be frustrating, residents must follow all posted signs and detours, and do not move barriers or pylons—these are in place to keep everyone safe. Project complexities and timelines: Underground utility work is complex. While the contractor strives to stay on schedule, project timelines may shift or change suddenly with short notice for several reasons: Complex underground infrastructure: Crews often encounter decades-old utility lines and infrastructure that may not be precisely mapped in historical records. Preventing other disruptions: Excavating near existing utilities and infrastructure requires extra time and precision to maintain crew safety and prevent accidental service disruptions. Unforeseen factors: Weather conditions, soil conditions, material or equipment shortages/shipping delays, and other factors can also impact completion dates. Project area The map below shows the approximate work area along 50 Avenue, including the water feedline route between the Main and St. Vital pumphouses and the sanitary sewer repair near 50 Avenue and 47 Street. What to expect on 50 Avenue Traffic and parking lane closures along 50 Avenue are expected to begin the week of May 25. Work will happen in phases, so impacts may shift as crews move through the project area. During construction, residents and drivers should expect: Ongoing traffic pattern changes and rolling lane/road closures along 50 Avenue Delays through active work areas Two-way traffic to be maintained when possible, with one lane open in each direction. Some road closures and detours will be required throughout the project to accommodate underground infrastructure installation and crew safety. No parking adjacent to construction work along 50 Avenue Temporary electronic message boards near the work area before lane closures begin Signage and traffic control measures to guide drivers through the area Drivers are asked to slow down near crews, watch for changing traffic patterns and allow extra travel time. Extra project information Access to homes and businesses: Access to private driveways and entryways will be maintained as much as possible throughout most of the project. If driveway, business or side road access will be affected, the contractor will notify impacted residents and businesses in advance. Residents will NOT be directly notified about detours or lane closures; please watch for signage in the area and follow detours as required. Work hours: Construction work will follow the City’s noise restrictions and work hours outlined in the Community Standards Bylaw.
