On March 8, International Women’s Day, we recognize the invaluable contributions of women in Beaumont and around the world. This year’s theme from the Government of Canada, Strength in Every Story, highlights the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while the global theme, Accelerate Action, reinforces the need for continued progress toward true gender equality.

Women have shaped our community in countless ways—as leaders, business owners, educators, volunteers, advocates, and caregivers—enriching Beaumont and contributing to a stronger future. I want to specifically recognize the exceptional women serving alongside me on City Council. Councillors Kathy Barnhart and Catherine McCook are dedicated public servants whose perspectives play a vital role in shaping our community.

I encourage everyone to take time to learn more about the history of women’s rights, reflect on the experiences of women in our communities, and consider ways to support gender equality in everyday life. Resources such as Government of Canada’s International Women’s Day and Women and Gender Equality webpages and International Women’s Day website offer valuable insights into the progress made and the work that remains.

To the women of Beaumont, thank you. The effects of your contributions are felt every day, and your voices continue to inspire future generations. Happy International Women’s Day.
