Meeting agenda items

Open Forum – Disability Employment Awareness Month 

Representatives from the Gateway Association spoke to Council about the need and benefit of providing equitable workspaces for people with disabilities. 

Habitat for Humanity 

A representative from Habitat for Humanity Edmonton spoke to Council about the organization’s model to provide affordable housing and how the group could work with the City of Beaumont. 

Community Financial Sustainability (A Place to Grow) 

Council received a progress update for the Community Financial Sustainability (A Place to Grow) project to identify citizens’ priorities for facilities and amenities and their comfort with options to pay for them.  

Youth programming options 

Council approved a plan to hold a “Teen Takeover” event at the Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre once or twice a year beginning in 2025. The event will provide teens with free, exclusive use of the pool, arena, gymnasium and other facilities in the recreation centre for an evening.  

Community Services department update 

Administration presented a progress report on the merger of the Recreation and Community & Social Development departments into the single department of Community Services. 

Property tax late penalties 

Council declined two requests from residents to waive penalties for late payment of property taxes.  

Trail connection to Le Rêve 

Council passed a motion by Coun. Steve vanNieuwkerk for Administration to prepare information on the requirements, including land acquisition and construction costs, to build a trail connection to the Le Rêve neighbourhood on the east side of 50 Street. The information will be provided for 2025 budget deliberations.
