Buckle up and save lives

Beaumont RCMP would like to remind residents that wearing your seat belt is the simplest and most effective way to protect you and your passengers from injury or death in the event of a collision.

The Alberta RCMP encourages you to practice the following traffic safety tips for optimal use of seatbelts:

  • Ensure the seatbelt is positioned securely across the hip bones and the shoulder. The shoulder belt should sit across the centre of the chest, and never under your arm or behind your back. In a collision, this could cause fatal injuries.
  • Most children are ready for standard seatbelts when they are between 8 and 12 years of age and are taller than 4'9" (145 cm). (Safe Roads)
  • Children under the age of 13 are safest in the back seat. (Safe Roads)

In Alberta, all drivers and passengers must be properly secured in the vehicle with a seat belt or an approved child safety seat attached by a seat belt or an anchor system. Passengers 16 years of age and older not properly secured in the vehicle can be fined. You, as the driver, are responsible for ensuring that all passengers in your vehicle under 16 years of age are properly secured. You can be fined if they are not properly secured.

For questions regarding proper child safety seat installation, you can contact the Leduc Public Health office at 780-980-4644 ext. 3.
