Beaumont, AB - The City of Beaumont recently recovered a dog that had been on the loose in the community. Two parties have provided evidence of ownership of the dog. There have also been allegations that the dog was stolen several years ago. These allegations were provided to the Beaumont RCMP, who have opened an investigation.
This is a difficult situation and we have sympathy for everyone involved. A pet is a family member, and losing one can be devastating. Throughout the matter, the city’s primary concern has been the dog’s health and welfare.
As required by provincial legislation, both a kennel operator and a Beaumont Municipal Enforcement officer conducted a health check and determined that the dog was healthy and appeared well cared for. The Municipal Enforcement officer also visited the animal’s most recent home and decided it was better for the dog’s wellbeing to release it to the family that has been caring for it during the last several years than leave it with the kennel while RCMP investigate and any dispute over ownership could be resolved.
As per privacy legislation, the City of Beaumont is not releasing information about either of the parties claiming ownership. Additionally, the matter is the subject of an RCMP investigation and we will not be commenting further at this time.
