Sanitary System Improvements – 50 Avenue and 47 Street

Active Commuting updatesConstruction updatesRoad closuresUtilities notice

The City of Beaumont is completing a sanitary trunk main replacement at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 47 Street to maintain safe, reliable operation of the sanitary system. The current main requirereplacement.

What to expect

  • Road closure: 50 Avenue will be closed at 47 Street during the project. Commuters are encouraged to find alternate routes or follow the detour signs. Heavier traffic is expected in the St. Vital neighbourhood while the detour is in place.
  • Digging and pipe replacement: The work involves digging up the road and ground to remove the existing pipe, replace it with new pipe and restoration work once the project is complete.
  • Construction setup and noise: Residents may notice more construction vehicles, materials and noise in the area during normal working hours. All work will follow the Community Standards Bylaw.
  • Bypass setup: A bypass will also be set up for sanitary flows. The bypass takes flows from the wastewater system underground and discharges them into a different wastewater manhole away from the work area. Once the replacement is complete, the bypass will be removed, and flows will continue through the new sanitary line.

Project timelines

  • Work is expected to begin the week of July 20 and could take up to one month to complete, pending weather, schedule changes or other unforeseen factors.

Safety

The safety of residents and crews is our top priority. Please follow all posted signs, construction barriers and keep a safe distance from the work area and equipment. Do not move any barricades, cones or barriers in place – these are in place for safety purposes.

Project benefits

  • The project includes installing a new 70 metre upgraded sanitary line to service the community now and in the future.
  • Replacing aging infrastructure will create a more reliable wastewater system and reduce the risk of a large disruption, which could lead to back-ups in homes.
  • The work is happening concurrently with the 50 Avenue water feedline project, allowing for seamless coordination between the two projects.
  • The replacement was included as part of the City’s 2026 Capital Project work and supports the City’s long-term infrastructure planning and asset management strategies to support Beaumont now and in the future.
