Business developmentCity updatesNeighbourhoodPlanning & Development Posted on: July 16, 2026 Project Overview Although long designated for commercial use, the lot at 9 Coloniale Way has remained vacant for several years. The site is being developed into the Belleview Centre, featuring two two-storey commercial buildings with potential amenities and services including retail, a daycare and a restaurant/café. As the property is privately owned, the developer is responsible for the construction schedule. The City finalized the development agreement, authorizing work to begin. The neighbourhood sign is being preserved The Coloniale Estates entrance sign is a community landmark for the neighbourhood and Beaumont. The City worked closely with the developer so that the sign is integrated into the site design. To accommodate the new layout, a section of low decorative stonework on the right side will be removed; however, the sign and remaining stonework will stay intact. What to expect during construction To prepare the site, the small vacant building on the east side of the lot will be removed. Trees and bushes directly behind the neighbourhood sign and throughout the property will also be cleared to accommodate the building footprint and site levelling, but will be replaced with new greenery as part of future landscaping. All construction activities must follow the City’s Community Standards Bylaw, which sets permissible work hours, noise levels, and how work sites must manage waste and debris. The project may include the temporary closing of the sidewalks and pathways along 50th Street and Coloniale Way, along with short-term lane closures. Though construction timing is set by the property owner and developer, the City is committed to sharing timely updates about impacts to affected roads and walkways as the project progresses. Growth that makes sense for Beaumont City Council’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, Strengthening Our Community, Together, includes a commitment to support local business growth and commercial investment in Beaumont. This plan was largely shaped by feedback from residents. New businesses choosing to invest in the community is exactly the kind of growth Council’s plan welcomes. In reviewing and approving the project, the City worked closely with the developer to make sure the new buildings reflect Beaumont’s character and French heritage, as set out in the Beaumont Urban Design Guidelines.
