Residential Snow Clearing Starts January 7—Parking Bans in Effect

Active Commuting updatesSnow notice

Crews will begin clearing residential streets in the northeast quadrant (Colonial, Citadel Ridge and Centre-Ville) and work clockwise through the city starting January 7. A residential parking ban is in effect in designated areas to support snow removal. Please watch for signage in your area to know when the ban applies, or input your address into the interactive map to learn when crews will be in your area.

Parking ban reminder: Bans start at midnight on the date listed on the sign (e.g., “No Parking Monday” means the ban begins at 12:00 am Monday). Vehicles left on the street during parking bans face a $250 ticket and may be towed to allow for effective snow removal.

Move vehicles to keep roads clear and safe

The City needs your help to clear roads effectively. Parking bans are issued when crews are clearing in neighbourhoods. By removing your vehicle during parking bans, it helps:

  • Improve snow removal efficiency: Heavy snow accumulation means crews need extra space to remove large amounts of snow quickly and effectively.
  • Reduce windrows on roads: When vehicles are moved, windrows (snow piles) are placed more consistently and closer to the edge of the road, rather than left around parked vehicles, which makes roadways narrow.
  • Support a more accessible community: Cooperation during parking bans helps maintain smooth traffic flows and better access for emergency and service vehicles.

Snow removal progress and parking ban changes

Snow removal progress is updated on the City’s interactive map.

  • Snow removal and parking ban schedules may change based on weather conditions and operational requirements.
  • Forecasts are monitored closely, and schedules may be adjusted to maximize safe and effective snow removal.
