Active Commuting updatesConstruction updates As Beaumont continues to grow, traffic patterns and volumes are changing in the north end of the city. Starting March 10, 2026, work will begin to install traffic lights at the intersection of 50 Street and Le Rêve Drive. Early in the planning stages, the area developer completed a traffic impact assessment that identified a future need for traffic lights at this intersection for safe, efficient access to the area. With new homes, businesses, school bus routes and daycare facilities now established, traffic lights are being installed to support increasing volume and movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the area. This traffic safety enhancement also lays groundwork for safe pedestrian and cyclist access. Design work is getting underway for a new multi-use trail along 50 Street between the Le Rêve development and Township Road 510. Once complete, the trail will support year-round walking, cycling and active transportation options, connecting Le Rêve to Beaumont’s trail systems. The contractor will set up digital signs before work begins to notify commuters about upcoming construction. Access to Le Rêve will continue through both entrances at Le Rêve Drive and 70 Avenue. Both northbound and southbound highway lanes will also remain open during construction. Project impacts Southbound and northbound turning lanes at 50 Street and Le Rêve Drive, the northbound exit/merging lane, and nearby shoulder lanes will be closed during construction. The shoulder and service road opposite of Le Rêve Drive will also be closed. The speed limit will remain at 50 km/h while work is being done. The City of Beaumont appreciates your cooperation and caution while navigating through the construction zone to keep crew members and commuters safe. Work is anticipated to be done in mid-April, subject to weather and unexpected construction impacts. The City is collaborating closely with the contractor to mitigate disruptions. The City of Beaumont thanks drivers and residents for their attention and cooperation during this work. For additional questions or details, please contact engineering@beaumont.ab.ca.
