Media releasesYouth Posted on: January 13, 2026 Following the successful selection of an artist through last year’s call for submissions, the City of Beaumont is excited to share the next steps in the Chantal Bérubé Community Youth Centre (CBYC) Public Art Project, a mural initiative designed to enhance community spaces, engage youth and celebrate creativity. After reviewing proposals from talented Alberta-based artists in 2025, Josh Harnack, an Edmonton-based artist known for exploring themes of belonging, identity and resilience, was selected to bring this community-driven artwork to life. Josh’s vision will be shaped by direct community input, reflecting the voices, stories and experiences of Beaumont residents. Phase 1: Community and youth engagement- Introduction to the project and brainstorming session. Meet the Artist. (End January 2026) Phase 2: Ideation – Youth workshops for concept development and idea generation (February) Phase 3: Render – Preliminary design submitted to the committee for approval (March) Phase 4: Final design – Final design submitted to the committee for approval (March) Phase 5: Execute – Mural execution plan: Create artwork on ACM panels for the east flower bed. Relocate items in front of the north wall, deliver and set up scaffolding, power wash and prime the surface, then begin mural rendering. Install ACM panels above the flower bed. Continue rendering the north and east murals. Complete murals and apply anti-graffiti and UV-protective topcoat (April – end of May) Phase 6: Post-project engagement – Community engagement and reflection (June) At every stage, community input will help shape the mural’s themes, colours and storytelling elements, producing a final artwork that represents Beaumont. Residents can participate through consultation sessions, youth workshops and public updates at key project milestones.
