Statement from Mayor Bill Daneluik regarding death of missing Beaumont man

“Our community is suffering another tragic and untimely loss this week with confirmation yesterday that a young Beaumont man drowned in the North Saskatchewan River.

“Austin Laporte went missing on the river July 16, in Devon. Despite extensive search and rescue efforts, news that his body has been recovered and identified puts an end to our hopes and confirms our worst fears.

“We offer our deepest condolences to Mr. Laporte’s family and friends. We all feel these losses in a tight-knit community like Beaumont and it’s heartwarming to see the outpouring of kindness and support for the families affected.

“For residents who need support to cope with grief, including mental health support, please reach out to our team with Beaumont’s Family and Community Support Services at 780-929-1006 or fcss@beaumont.ab.ca to access support and resources.

“To the family and friends of Mr. Laporte, on behalf of Beaumont City Council, our Administration, and our community, I extend our deepest sympathies.”
