Beaumont, AB – The City of Beaumont is taking action to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in the community and ensure essential services continue for residents.
“Our highest priorities are the health and safety of our residents and making sure critical services like fire protection, police, and drinking water are there for people when they need them,” said Mayor John Stewart. “While the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains low and people should remain calm, we have an obligation to each other to reduce the chances for it to spread.”
Effective immediately, the city has closed the following facilities until April 6:
- Centre Communautaire Beaumont Community Centre
- Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre
- Chantal Bérubé Youth Centre
All city-operated programs and events have also been cancelled until April 6. The city will continually re-evaluate the risk to public health before resuming programs and reopening facilities.
The City of Beaumont and its contractors have plans in place to ensure the continued orderly operation of essential services if a significant number of employees are unable to work. City employees have received instruction on how to minimize the spread of the virus, and enhanced hygiene and sanitization measures have been implemented throughout city buildings and Beaumont Transit.
Members of the public can find the latest information about the virus, prevention and what to do if you are exposed on the Government of Alberta’s website at www.alberta.ca/covid19. The City of Beaumont is also providing updated details about municipal services, facilities and other information at www.beaumont.ab.ca/covid19.
Residents are encouraged to follow instructions from the provincial government. People can also help each other by checking on their neighbours during the pandemic and offering to buy groceries, shovel their walk, or run other errands if they are self-isolated or have a compromised immune system.
“The next few weeks may be challenging and unsettling, but this is a tight-knit community where people look out for one another,” said Stewart. “With level heads, open hearts and common sense, we will get through this together.”
