Snow comes every year and the City needs your help keeping winter roads as clear and safe as possible.

Snow clearing – a shared responsibility

Winter safety is a team effort. Residents and the City of Beaumont have a shared responsibility for snow and ice removal. Learn more about keeping our streets and sidewalks safe during the winter, and thanks for your continued partnership to keep our community safe and accessible all winter!

Resident responsibilities

  • Clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 48 hours of the snowfall.
  • Free rock chips are available at the Beaumont Community Centre for added traction.

  • Never shovel snow onto the street or neighbouring properties.
  • Shovelling snow onto the road creates unsafe roads for vehicles and pedestrians, and it can increase flood risk when snow melts.
  • Shovelling snow onto the road or other adjacent properties may result in fines under the Community Standards Bylaw 1024-22 (sections 30-35) [pdf].

  • When parking bans are announced, vehicles need to be removed from the street so crews and equipment can do their job effectively and safely.
  • Temporary parking bans will be posted 48 hours before clearing begins.
  • Enter your address into the City’s interactive snow and ice service levels map for estimated snow clearing schedules.
  • Parking bans start at midnight starting on the date noted on temporary parking ban signs, as snow removal happens around the clock.
  • Vehicles left on the road during parking bans face a $250 fine and may be relocated or towed under Traffic Safety Bylaw 1026-23 (sections 58-59) [pdf]

  • Remove all snow and ice off your car before driving it’s a traffic violation, which could result in a ticket, and is a safety hazard to yourself, other drivers and pedestrians.

City responsibilities

  • City staff monitor the forecast and crews work 24/7 once snowfall reaches 5 cm or more, or drifting becomes significant.
  • Priority is given to arterial and collector roads with the highest volumes of traffic, like 50 Street and 50 Avenue.
  • Check the interactive snow and ice service levels map to input your address and view your area’s priority and schedule.

  • Parking bans are called when 5 cm or more of snow or significant drifting occurs and vehicles need to be moved for the City to clear roads to maintain safety and access.
  • Not all snow events will lead to a parking ban.
  • Major routes (P1-P2) have permanent seasonal parking ban restrictions; temporary signs are posted on residential roads (P3-P5) 48 hours before clearing begins.
  • Parking bans start at midnight on the date noted on the signs. Crews work around the clock to remove snow until complete.
  • Vehicles must be removed from the street when a parking ban is in place. Vehicles that are not moved will be ticketed and towed.
