Beaumont, AB – Beaumont Mayor John Stewart had the following statement regarding the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic:
“Today, the Alberta government announced aggressive new measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19. I urge you to review these steps on the government’s website and follow their instructions. We all have a part to play in keeping one another safe.
“But while we need to practice social-distance, that doesn’t mean we’re alone. You not only have all of the city staff working daily to keep essential services going, you have the entire community behind you. That’s one of Beaumont’s greatest strengths – we support each other.
“So, even though these are unsettling circumstances, we can all make choices to help our community and keep us safe. We can continue to support our local businesses by phoning ahead to ask for delivery, curbside pick-up or drive-through options. We can support our neighbours or ask for help when we need it.
“In recent days, Spontivly, a locally developed app, has created listings to note where supplies are available in the community. Spontivly recently partnered with the city to promote community events. But with most events now cancelled, they’ve adapted their tool to support the community in other ways. If you’re able to collect groceries and other supplies for others, you can tag yourself on the app as a volunteer.
“Residents have also created a group on Facebook as a way to reach each other, share tips, educational resources, offers to help, and other useful information. You can find more about these tools on our website.
“Finally, we have made Beaumont Transit free for the next three weeks. While I ask that you use transit only when necessary and maintain social distancing when you ride, this service can be a lifeline for people who need to get into Edmonton and don’t have a car.
“As always, our priority is your health and safety. We will continue to share updates on the city’s website and Facebook page. Please check back regularly.
“This is a critical time to flatten the curve of COVID-19 and we are doing everything possible based on the expert advice of public health professionals to stop its spread.
