Posted on: May 11, 2022 Beaumont families can now borrow a Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre (BSRC) membership from Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library. The initiative is part of the city’s commitment to making recreational facilities accessible for all Beaumont families.“The whole community benefits from healthy children and families,” said Mayor Bill Daneluik. “As an inclusive community, we are working with our partners at the library to make sure more families have the opportunity to explore all the BSRC has to offer.”“The Library is thrilled to be partnering with the City to expand access to the BSRC,” said Library Director Laura Winton. “When we think of libraries, we typically think of print literacy, but physical literacy is just as important in the holistic development of children and youth. In fact, physical literacy improves not just physical health, but cognitive skills, psychological wellness, and social skills, which is why the library incorporates movement in all our early literacy programming. Expanding access to the City’s incredible recreation facility opens the door for more families to explore, play and learn together.”BSRC memberships can be borrowed for one week at a time and cover two adults plus children (17 and under) in the family. With it, families can access all the benefits of a Family Plus Membership at the centre, including drop-in fitness classes, the swimming pool, drop-in sports, and the fitness centre.A current library card is required and can be obtained for free at the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library. Membership with the library also provides access to more than 3.5 million books, movies, and DVDs, programming for all ages, e-resources such as e-books, e-audiobooks, and online learning platforms, library computers, printing, faxing, and scanning services. Library staff are on-hand seven days a week to help community members with any information or technology needs. The city introduced a low-cost family swim night every Saturday at the BSRC pool earlier this year. The program has become successful, with Saturdays being one of the busiest nights at the pool.
