Kathy Barnhart, M.Ed,
This is Kathy’s second term in office as a Beaumont Councillor. During her campaigns, Kathy spoke to her priorities of citizen engagement, improved community services, and economic sustainability.
Kathy is a lifelong learner and holds two undergraduate degrees - one in Early Childhood Education and one in Liberal Arts, as well as, a Masters in Educational Administration. She has earned an Alberta Teaching Certificate and an Early Childhood Certificate and has taught at MacEwan College. She has successfully completed several professional development certificate programs and leadership courses including Leadership in the 21st Century, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Tamarack Community Collaboration Institute.
Kathy was born and lived on Staten Island, in New York City. She and husband, Ron, met in high school and have been together ever since. They have lived in Otterburn Park(Quebec), and Kinuso, Lacombe, and Beaumont(Alberta). Ron recently changed roles from teaching high school in Beaumont for 23 years, where he headed up the Career Technology Studies Department to teaching adults ESL in downtown Edmonton. They have two grown children with families and careers in full throttle.
Kathy’s hobbies range from downhill skiing to flying small planes, travelling, golf, genealogy, reading mystery novels, dreaming of writing a novel herself one day, and riding horses. She loves to stay connected and busy with family, friends, colleagues and business partners. She is currently volunteering as the Chair of the Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Society, and a Director on the River Watch Institute Board.
