3. Who are our partners for this project?

City administration worked with Alberta Health Services to outline a scope for this project. MNP was engaged to review and analyze demographics, projections, and health utilization data; analyze research from comparable communities; develop a survey; organize community meetings; and provide recommendations for Council’s consideration. 

4. What is a Community Health Needs Assessment?

A Community Health Needs Assessment provides comprehensive information about the community’s current health status, needs and issues, and identifies potential future needs.

5. What other information will the consultants be reviewing besides the survey results to develop their report and findings?

A Community Health Needs Assessment provides comprehensive information about the community’s current health status, needs and issues, and identifies potential future needs. This is being done by engaging with residents and stakeholders (through an online survey and focus groups for key demographics); a comprehensive analysis of community, Alberta Health Services health utilization data, population growth and demographics, and comparisons of similar municipalities and policy reviews on best practices to encourage better access to healthcare services. The survey is only one part of this larger project. It is important to gauge what the community perceives and believes the needs to be, based on their immediate networks within the community, by comparing this with what data is telling us. This provides a more comprehensive picture than just looking at the numbers.

6. What is the municipality’s role in healthcare? Isn’t this a provincial responsibility?

While the province, through Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health, is responsible for delivering health services to Albertans, municipalities play a supportive role by developing policies and bylaws to support community health and wellbeing. Through community health planning, the City of Beaumont is assessing current community health needs and potential future needs to support city residents as Beaumont continues to grow. By developing a community health plan, the city will be well placed to work with provincial and neighbouring municipal partners to identify and provide access to health and wellness services for residents.

7. Why is this important for our community?

Beaumont is growing at a faster pace than most other communities in Alberta, so City Council needs to continue to focus on current needs of the city, while planning for how the city will meet the needs of a larger community.

9. How long is this needs assessment going to take? When can I see the results?

The survey will run until December 8, 2023. MNP will then analyze the utilization data, survey results, feedback received at the demographic-specific community consultation sessions and research done to compare other communities of like size, demographic and location. MNP will provide a What We Heard Report after the stakeholder engagement phase and a final report with their findings by March 2024. 

10. How is the City of Beaumont collecting information for the Community Health Needs Assessment?

Feedback from residents and service providers in Beaumont is being collected through a survey and demographic-specific community consultation sessions, which are being scheduled based on growing demographic groups.

11. How can I participate? How do I access the survey?

You can access the survey here or by scanning your smartphone camera over the QR code. If you are interested in also participating in a demographic specific community session, you can provide your name and contact information at the end of the survey. 

12. Is my input confidential?

MNP is committed to strict confidentiality in the administration of the survey. Survey results will be aggregated into themes, and specific data will not be linked directly to any individual.  

13. How can I view the findings once they are released?

Updates throughout the process will be posted on this website. A final report will be available and posted here by March 2024. 

14. How much is this costing the taxpayer?

This health planning initiative is budgeted at $100,000. This includes researching current health services in Beaumont and comparisons with similar-sized municipalities, surveying residents, health and social care providers, and providing a final report with recommendations to City Council.
