FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Beaumont, AB – During the 2018 Budget considerations Council approved the Aqua-Fit Phase 2 project for $29,500,000 subject to available grant funding from the Federal or Provincial Governments.
Recently, Beaumont has learned that municipal recreation centres owned and operated by towns and cities will not be included as part of the first round of funding approvals available under the Investing in Canada Fund. Unfortunately, this means that the Federal or Provincial Government funding that may have been available to Beaumont is no longer a realistic source of funding for the Aqua-Fit Phase 2.
Based on this information, Beaumont Council will be discussing alternative funding options at the June 26, 2018 Regular Council Meeting. The options include the utilization of Municipal Sustainability Initiative (commonly known as MSI) and Federal Gas Tax Funding. Beaumont will continue to work with our community partners and apply to any available funding sources that may become available to us.
We invite all residents and user groups of Beaumont, Alberta to attend Aqua-Fit Phase 2 Alternative Funding discussion during our Regular Council Meeting on June 26, 2018 at Beaumont Council Chambers. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m.
