Adults will be able to drink alcoholic beverages at designated picnic tables within Four Season Park this summer.

Council approved the four-month pilot project in response to a public survey in which a majority of residents said the City of Beaumont should consider allowing the limited consumption of alcohol in parks.

The pilot will run from June 1 to September 30 and the results, along with feedback from residents, will help Council determine whether drinking in parks should be continued, if changes are necessary, or if it should not continue.

Where is alcohol allowed in Four Seasons Park?

Alberta legislation limits where public consumption of alcohol is allowed. You can only drink at picnic tables in Four Seasons Park where signs are posted. Drinking is not permitted away from these areas and near the spray park.

  1. Pilot Project Rules
  • Minors under 18 are not permitted to consume alcohol.
  • Don’t drink and drive. Call 911 if you see someone drinking and driving.
  • Alcohol consumption is allowed seven days a week at designated picnic sites between 11 am and 9 pm only. 
  • You are not permitted to walk around the park or to other sites with open alcohol.
  • Drink in moderation and be considerate of other park users and the people living near Four Seasons Park. We will not tolerate public intoxication, urinating in public, or other disruptive behaviour.
  • Park users must comply with RCMP or Beaumont Municipal Enforcement Officers if they are believed to be intoxicated and asked to stop drinking liquor.
  • Make sure you take any garbage and empty drinks containers with you when you leave the site and put them in the appropriate waste receptacles.

We want to hear from you! There are a number of ways you can provide your feedback before the pilot begins:

  • You can complete an online survey between March 6 and 31.
  • You can speak to City Council at a public hearing on April 11. The meeting will begin at 6 pm at Beaumont City Hall, 5600 49 Street. If you wish to provide a written submission or make a verbal submission to Council, please notify the City Clerk at legislative@beaumont.ab.ca or 780-929-8782.
  • There will also be an additional opportunity for people to provide feedback once the pilot is complete.
