As road conditions become slippery, abrasives and/or melting agents may be applied to hazardous locations such as intersections, curves, hills and school crosswalks. There are three (3) priority levels for Roadway Ice Control.:
Priority | Roadways | Timeframe | Snow Conditions |
---|
1 | Arterial roadways and emergency services | 8 hours after | 1 cm snowfall or equivalent snowdrift |
2 | Collector roadways and school zones | 12 hours after | 1 cm snowfall or equivalent snowdrift |
3 | Other areas identified that require ice control | 24 hours after | 1 cm snowfall or equivalent snowdrift; and after Priority 1 and 2 have been completed |
