Town of Beaumont Undertaking Forward-Looking Environmental Master Plan

June 20, 2012

Beaumont, AB - As part of implementing Beaumont’s 2011-2016 Strategic Plan, Beaumont Council has begun the preparation of an Environmental Master Plan (EMP). The Plan will be a team effort, including the participation of residents, businesses, Town administration, and Council, and will ultimately assist the Town in achieving long-term sustainability in various facets of the community. The process will include a number of opportunities for residents to have their say, including a section on the Town of Beaumont’s webpage, a survey, working groups and group events.

“We will be reaching out to the community so residents can assist the Town in deciding what the environmental priorities are,” said Mayor Camille Bérubé. “I encourage anyone interested, to get involved once the opportunities are made available.”

Beaumont’s Environmental Master Plan is intended to assist the Town in promoting an integrated approach to sustainability, ensuring a lack of duplication and focusing on implementable ideas. It will look at both the operations of the Town, as well as overall community issues related to Beaumont’s environmental impact, and will encourage decision-making based on triple bottom lines: environment, finance, and social. A successful EMP will result in an increasing quality of life for both current and future residents.

Working groups will be formed to discuss these issues through the summer, with larger-scale public events in the fall and early winter. These forums will be used to gather feedback on baseline data in Beaumont, and help set the direction for the plan overall. Please visit the project webpage to learn more and get involved (www.beaumont.ab.ca).

The Town of Beaumont is committed to being a vibrant community that builds on a wealth of personal and collective potential, and on its French heritage, making Beaumont the community of choice to live, work, play and invest. The Strategic Plan and Environmental Master Plans will help to achieve this vision.
