TOXIC AND EWASTE ROUNDUPS

The Town of Beaumont in order to encourage residents to get rid of their toxic household hazardous waste and electronic devices has begun an initiative to collect those items from residents free of charge. These “roundup” events are partially funded in part by a grant from the Alberta Recycling Management Authority.

There will also be an area where residents can exchange partially used paints.

When is the material collected?

This will be held at the S&D Aquafit Centre north parking lot (5001 Rue Eaglemont) on June 2, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

What material will be collected?

  •  Electronic Waste
o Computers and servers (includes speakers, mouse, cables, keyboard)
    o Laptops and notebook computers
    o Televisions
    o Computer Monitors
    o Printers
  • Paint (Paint must be in original containers sized 100 mL to 23 litres)
o Interior & exterior latex and oil based paints and stains.
o Empty cans and pails of paint.
    o Aerosol paints.

  • Toxic and Hazardous Waste
    o Fluorescent/CFL light bulbs
    o Propane tanks
    o Batteries
    o Waste antifreeze
o Used motor oil and filters
    o Residential cleaning supplies

It is important to keep these items out of our local landfills and out of our water drains. Many of these materials have an adverse effect on our environment and need to be disposed of properly.
